The family plays a determining role in the development of the emotional well-being of its members. Self-injury is a phenomenon that has been growing in the world statistics in adolescents, so there is an enormous concern for the presence of risk factors, both individual and psychosocial. The relationship between satisfaction with family life and the emergent behavior of non-suicidal self-injury was established. The study had a quantitative, correlational, non-experimental, cross-sectional design. The population consisted of 200 high school students. The results indicate that a chaotic and unsatisfactory family environment may be a predisposing factor for the presence of emergent non-suicidal self-injurious behavior. Adolescents present self-injurious practices for various reasons: feelings of loneliness, insecurity behaviors, inadequate response to adversity. In addition, self-determination theory offers a plausible explanation for the relationship found in this research. The satisfaction of basic psychological needs, such as the need for competence, relatedness, and autonomy, can be achieved through a healthy and supportive family environment, which in turn can improve the emotional well-being of adolescents and reduce the risk of self-injurious behaviors.

Received: 7 September 2023 / Accepted: 6 January 2024 / Published: 5 March 2024

Indigenous Phronetic Leaders inspired and promoted immense developments in communities through collective organizational knowledge creation. The study aimed to identify the problem of farmers, determine how phronetic leadership was practiced by the key informant, and describe the present situation of Bacut, Santa Marcela, Apayao, Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Philippines. Mr. Elorde P. Anniban, an indigenous phronetic leaders was the main participant and the protagonist. He is an indigenous respected elder or “pangat” who, despite being physically disabled, initiated reforms in Bacut. In-depth interviews and document reviews were applied in this management case study. Results revealed that the main problem of the farmers was low rice production because there was no water system to irrigate their farmlands. Without the knowledge of the key participant, he applied the socialization, externalization, combination, and internalization (SECI) model and encouraged the mining of bright ideas of the people, engaged stakeholders and relentlessly sought government intervention to address the problem of farmers. Through the phronetic leadership of the key informant, the farmers, and the government leaders, an environment-friendly dam, fondly called the Bacut Lake was constructed irrigating farmlands and doubling and even tripling rice production addressing poverty in Santa Marcela, Apayao. In addition, indigenous peoples' phronetic leadership, the province of Apayao has now an astounding agri-eco-tourism site, a national park, rich in biodiversity, and several existing organizations are working together to boost the economy of the farmers and the province. On the other hand, Ifugao State University, a government higher education institution in the country, crystallized a phronetic leadership framework as an offshoot of the study.

Received: 28 September 2023 / Accepted: 23 February 2024 / Published: 5 March 2024

Sex tourism is a classification of tourism that focuses on obtaining pleasure in exchange for money. For this research, a total of 212 papers on the topic of sex tourism were selected from the Scopus database, and a bibliometric analysis was conducted. The analysis concluded that this behaviour can be confused with prostitution and child sexual abuse. Therefore, to protect the integrity of citizens and to avoid public health problems arising from an increase in sexually transmitted diseases, it is recommended that the sex tourism industry be regulated and/or prohibited.

Received: 27 April 2023 / Accepted: 15 January 2024 / Published: 5 March 2024

At the present time, international institutions have been requesting efforts to offer quality health services and dignified treatment. However, scientific evidence reports that women in their maternal role are at greater risk of having their right to health violated, suffering some type of violence and even being discriminated against during pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum. The aim of the study was to investigate the scientific evidence on obstetric violence in the health care setting. Methods: The Scopus and Scielo databases were exhaustively explored, making a total of 30 scientific articles. For this purpose, the inclusion criteria were established as English, Spanish and Portuguese. All articles aimed at evaluating obstetric violence were included. Studies were excluded due to duplicity and deficiencies in the methodological quality of these documents. Results: The presence of three categories is evident: (a) dehumanization during childbirth (b) policies and regulations are not complied with in practice (c) types of violence not recognized by health professionals. It is concluded that obstetric violence is a problem that has been affecting several countries. Despite efforts to reduce this phenomenon, policies and regulations are not applied in practice, which is why the various types of violence affect not only the woman but also the newborn. Therefore, training for professionals is urgently needed to avoid any type of violence.

Received: 17 August 2023 / Accepted: 5 February 2024 / Published: 5 March 2024

After World War II, Vietnam declared independence from France and Japan following the victory of the resistance movement for independence led by the Viet Minh. However, with the regulations at the Yalta conference, France returned to wage war to force Vietnam and the entire Indochina peninsula to fall under French rule as before. In Vietnam, France refused to cooperate with Viet Minh because it believed that this organization was Communist. France tried every way to set up a “puppet” government and they turned to Bao Dai, an Emperor who had just been overthrown in August 1945. The Bao Dai solution was proposed by France to maintain colonialism in Vietnam. This solution aims to establish a “National Government of Vietnam” under French influence, maintaining French interests and influence. This research article aims to clarify the puppet nature of the “National Government of Vietnam” and show that it had an important influence on the situation in Vietnam during the Indochina War (1945-1954). Methods of exploiting historical documents, logical methods and international relations research methods are used to clarify the content of the research article.

Received: 13 October 2023 / Accepted: 29 January 2024 / Published: 5 March 2024

This study explores the dynamic relationship between user acceptance and Online Behavioral Advertising (OBA). It aims to unravel how trust, transparency, and privacy concerns shape user attitudes and behaviors in the realm of personalized advertising. Employing a mixed-methods approach, the research integrates quantitative data from online surveys with qualitative insights from semi-structured interviews. The findings reveal that trust in advertisers and perceived transparency play important roles in influencing user acceptance of OBA. Interestingly, while privacy concerns negatively impact trust, they paradoxically enhance perceptions of OBA's effectiveness. The study further explores the nuanced interaction between transparency and trust, indicating that their combined effect differs from their individual influences. These insights are vital for advertisers and policymakers, underscoring the need for strategies that prioritize user-centric values like transparency and trust while addressing privacy concerns. The research contributes to the broader discourse in digital marketing, offering guidelines for ethical and effective personalized advertising practices.

Received: 1 December 2023 / Accepted: 15 February 2024 / Published: 5 March 2024

The Covid-19 pandemic has hit businesses extremely hard. Because of reduced social contact, many business models (BMs) have been limited, and some have become unviable. In the current external crisis, timely BM changes are crucial for more effective responses to challenges of critical importance. Based on the resource-based view theory, this study adopts a multi-case study approach to investigate the core competencies demonstrated by firms in different industries in adjusting to the external environment. Integrating and adapting existing BMs to form new BMs presents significant differences in operational outcomes between firms. This study focuses on the response and development of firm crisis management during the Covid-19 pandemic. Successful BM can enable firms to survive the crisis and even achieve improvement in the crisis. In addition, this paper distinguishes between business model innovation (BMI) and business model adaptation (BMA) at the theoretical and substantive levels, mainly from the perspective of firm value, including value proposition, value creation, value capture and value transfer, to differentiate between BMI and BMA. This study explains the impact of various BM changes on sustainable firm profitability and value through a detailed collection of media and company official reports. The emphasis on strategic flexibility has positively impacted firm BMs and value, which has implications for providing insights into companies’ long-term development.

Received: 15 November 2023 / Accepted: 9 February 2024 / Published: 5 March 2024

There is a great contradiction between the need for specialists in the modern education system who are ready to develop students ' logical thinking, and the discrepancy between the level of training of future teachers in the process of studying at universities. Based on a survey of the teaching staff, it was found that future mathematics teachers are not systematically trained in logical thinking of students (85.8% in the responses of teachers). In particular, the problem under study has not yet been sufficiently studied in the psychological and pedagogical literature: a) the conditions and system of logical thinking of students are poorly developed; b) an exhaustive model of preparation for logical thinking has not been developed. The goal of developing students ' logical thinking is: cognitive truth; formation of the correct system of cognitive techniques and methods. This is due to the fact that logic is a collection of knowledge about the forms and laws of abstract thinking in the knowledge of the world. Therefore, this article discusses the preparation of future mathematics teachers for the development of logical thinking of students.

Received: 17 August 2023 / Accepted: 21 February 2024 / Published: 5 March 2024

This work models a hard economic scenario in which inflation rate is set to 7%, the price of diesel is increasing, the price of electricity purchased from the power grid is inflated and there is a top limit for daily purchasable electricity on a region, in which there is an attempt to introduce renewable energy on a private property of the size of a residential house of 5 people. The optimal microgrid configuration is approximated by the new Hybrid Genetic-Fireworks Algorithm working in conjunction with a Monte Carlo simulation to find the annual worth, and comparing results with a Genetic Algorithm and a Fireworks Algorithm. The components considered are: solar panels, wind turbines, diesel generators, electric batteries, converters, and a connection to the power grid. The objective is to maximize annual worth. The results show that a cost of energy (COE) of 2.0603 USD per kWh is achievable in such scenario, and recommends the further use of the Hybrid Genetic-Fireworks Algorithm for this type or Renewable Energy Integration studies, as it outperformed their 2 counterparts in this work.

Received: 12 January 2024 / Accepted: 19 February 2024 / Published: 5 March 2024

This study aimed at verifying the effect of experiential learning program on entrepreneurial mindset. This study was based on a quasi-experimental design. The subjects were 113 undergraduate students, in which without randomization, fifty-eight and fifty-five students were grouped to a treatment group and a control group, respectively. The subjects in the treatment group received the experiential learning intervention during six weeks. Meanwhile, the subjects in the control group received the problem-based instructional method. All subjects completed the entrepreneurial mindset scale at two measurement times (i.e., pre-test and post-test). Based on Shapiro-Wilk test, data were found not to be normally distributed. Hence, data were then analyzed using the non-parametric tests. Based on data analysis, the undergraduate students who involved in the experiential learning program had a higher entrepreneurial mindset than those who did not involve in the program. In addition, the undergraduate students who involved in the experiential learning program had an increased entrepreneurial mindset. This study provided a theoretical implication, in which it extended the literature of the Implicit Theory of Intelligence (ITI) and the Experiential Learning Theory (ELT) by providing the synthesis of both theories in the higher education context. This study also had a practical implication for the lecturers who have an interest in entrepreneurship education. According to our findings, the entrepreneurial mindset could be enhanced by the experiential learning program (i.e., the experiential learning intervention).

Received: 9 September 2023 / Accepted: 24 February 2024 / Published: 5 March 2024

This research delves into the intricacies of translating idioms, focusing on the transition from English to Albanian. Idioms, deeply rooted in cultural and historical contexts, present significant challenges for translators because of their non-literal meanings and cultural specificity. The study reviews existing literature on idiom translation, highlighting the difficulties translators face and the strategies they use to maintain the authenticity of the source material. The paper identifies essential translation strategies such as paraphrasing, omission, and finding linguistic equivalents crucial in preserving the original text's intended meaning and essence. It emphasizes the importance of cultural understanding and cross-cultural awareness in the translation process, especially when dealing with fixed expressions and idioms that are culturally bound. Through an analysis of the translation of idioms from English to Albanian, the study reveals the need for coherence and careful consideration of linguistic nuances to convey meaningful messages effectively. It discusses conceptual metaphors, the cultural significance of specific motifs (like animals) in English idioms, and their translation into Albanian. Furthermore, the study explores the implications of idiom translation in the context of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) education. It suggests that teaching idioms by connecting them to their cultural origins and incorporating real-life examples can enhance EFL students' language proficiency and cultural understanding. The paper concludes by emphasizing the role of skilled translators in bridging linguistic and cultural gaps and provides references for further exploration of the topic.

Received: 1 November 2023 / Accepted: 13 February 2024 / Published: 5 March 2024

The South African clothing, textiles, leather, and footwear (CTLF) sector has been under competitive attack, mainly from Asian countries. The many studies undertaken so far have not focused on the role of research and development linkages among university, industry, and government (UIG), and hence, this study was undertaken. This study uses mixed methods, interviews of managers and directors from UIG actors, and a survey of CTLF firms to understand the role of UIG linkages in improving competitive advantage. The data was thematically and descriptively analysed. The findings highlight that most CTLF firms were not involved in UIG research and development linkages. As a result, CTLF firms have not utilised researchers available in the universities nor research-related industry and government funding that supports innovation and technological improvements. For the CTLF to improve its competitive advantage, its development strategies must include being engaged in UIG research and development linkages.

Received: 28 September 2023 / Accepted: 3 February 2024 / Published: 5 March 2024

Despite the evident increasing unemployment rates, particularly youth unemployment, the South Africa’s graduate labour force continues to grow. Recent studies show the devastating figures of graduate unemployment which grow alongside the overall unemployment rates in South Africa. Undoubtedly, unemployment mostly affects young graduates who recently graduated from higher learning institutions. Thus, internships are increasingly recognised as a bridge through which graduates can transition from higher learning institutions to the labour market. However, whether internships are good or bad for young graduates remains a debatable question. Therefore, this paper is drawn from the perspectives of young graduate interns to determine whether internship presents real opportunities for career development of young graduates or it is merely used as an exploitative tool by employers. This study adopted a qualitative approach where a total of thirty graduate interns from eThekwini Municipality participated in the semi-structured face-to-face interviews. The results indicate that most graduate interns viewed the local government internship programme as exploitative. Further results show that graduate interns are generally underpaid yet overworked in the local government internship. Workplace abuse and the lack of access to resources were reported as major challenges faced by graduate interns. These results symbolise the exploitative nature of internship programmes at the local government level. Therefore, this paper recommends appropriate systems, policies, and workplace rules to improve local government internships.

Received: 23 May 2023 / Accepted: 19 January 2024 / Published: 5 March 2024

This study aims to investigate English language anxiety among Saudi EFL learners, understand their experience with the causes and sources of their anxiety, and examine if they witness differences in their anxiety based on the differences in their demographic profile. As the study seeks to understand how certain independent variables (gender, employment profile of learners’ parents, and their educational level) shape and affect the dependent variable (English language anxiety), the quantitative approach (descriptive quantitative design) was selected, and Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale developed by Horwitz et al. (1986) was utilized to collect the data from the participants. A simple random sampling method was employed to select 205 respondents from the total population of students studying at different levels of the undergraduate program at the College of Business Administration, Prince Sattam bin Abdulaziz University, Al-Kharj, Saudi Arabia. The results of the study found that the participants experienced moderate levels of anxiety and that there were several sources of anxiety among Saudi EFL learners. Test and communicative anxieties were found to be the major sources of English language anxiety followed by classroom and negative evaluation anxieties respectively. One-way ANOVA analysis revealed no difference of any significance for English language anxiety among Saudi English students due to variance in their demographic profile. The study findings hold implications as they would be of immense use in addressing the issue of anxiety, understanding the possible sources, and finding ways to overcome issues of anxiety and help students move away from anxiety towards acquiring effective and excellent English language skills and proficiency.

Received: 20 September 2023 / Accepted: 19 February 2024 / Published: 5 March 2024

Partner violence is a public health problem that seriously affects the population, which is why valid and reliable instruments are needed to measure this issue according to the cultural context. The objective is to determine the validity and reliability of the Violence in Partner Relationships Scale (VIREPA) aimed at citizens of Metropolitan Lima. The applied methodology was cross-sectional, instrumental, and non-experimental. The scale was applied to a sample of 433 subjects of both sexes, aged 16 to 60 years. Aiken’s V was obtained for content validity, which was accepted by 100% of the experts. Reliability was verified through internal consistency using Cronbach's Alpha (0.977) and Omega (0.99). The descriptive analysis of the items also showed positive skewness and a tendency towards moderate to low kurtosis. Likewise, the confirmatory factor analysis provided a positive distribution of items with factor loadings ranging from (0.76 to 0.95). The CFA reported a good fit of the original model (Chi-square over degrees of freedom = 0.12; Root Mean Square Error of Approximation = 0.010; Standardized Root Mean Square Residual = 0.0026; Comparative Fit Index = 0.999; Tucker-Lewis Index = 0.998), and adequate factorial invariance was found when measuring the variable in both sexes. In conclusion, the psychometric scale effectively measures and evaluates violence in young couples' relationships, demonstrating high consistency, validity, and reliability, which was corroborated with the results obtained. It is essential to address this social problem properly and promote healthy and violence-free partner relationships.

Received: 7 September 2023 / Accepted: 9 January 2024 / Published: 5 March 2024

Decades, but with notable advances in access to education and labor participation, challenges remain. The objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of gender discrimination practices on the development of women's competencies in the labor context in a region of northern Peru in 2023. An online survey was administered to 450 women selected in a nonprobabilistic manner. Results: Six research hypotheses were proposed, three of which were empirically corroborated: Workplace->Skills (?= -0.019), Skills-> Career (?=0.701), and Employment Level (?= -0.128). Conclusions: Gender discrimination practices at work, on the one hand, have a negative impact on skills development but, in turn, do not affect women's career progression in the workplace; these findings also highlight the importance of fostering skills development in organizations to increase women's career progression in the work context. Finally, this study provides a general framework for the design of policies and strategies that promote equity, reduce discriminatory practices in the workplace, and maximize the potential of the female workforce.

Received: 16 December 2023 / Accepted: 16 February 2024 / Published: 5 March 2024

Activities at school can be a gateway to programmed and sustainable academic progress. The event in question is a meeting forum at school, outside of learning. The forum is a vehicle for programs to be communicated and seeks to involve related parties. Events at school will have an impact on the internalization of the value of religious moderation and the formation of students' character. This paper aims to examine the factors that influence school events and the impacts they have. These factors are the managerial attitude of the school principal, the role of central and regional government, the potential of the physical environment, and the involvement of the community and parents of students. The research was conducted in 36 elementary schools with 225 teachers. Data collection was carried out by distributing questionnaires, and analysis using SEM techniques. The results of the research found that school activities have not received serious attention as an entry point for school improvement. School events are a forum for program delivery, and can be an entry point for improving education, both student learning outcomes and others. The initiative and creativity of school principals is important for identifying deficiencies in their educational institutions, and becomes the basis for developing improvement programs and involving stakeholder participation to support them.

Received: 24 June 2023 / Accepted: 29 January 2024 / Published: 5 March 2024

The right to procreate should be provided for in every country's legislation. Infertility needs to be considered as an important public health issue. The absence of regulation could affect the essence of assisted human reproduction. In the present research, a review of the following databases was considered: Scopus, WoS, and PubMed, which were selected for their contribution and scientific rigor demonstrated over time. Twenty documents corresponding to the period 2003 to February 2023 were analyzed through a review of the literature. The results obtained were that Canada and Ireland were identified as the most cited countries. Along the same lines, the most cited journals correspond to Scopus quartile 1. Likewise, the article entitled Distributive Justice and Infertility Treatment in Canada is the most cited and was published in 2008. It was concluded that the common elements in the most studied legislation in scientific publications related to assisted human reproduction in the period 2003-2023 are access to treatment, consolidation of the right to procreate, and ethics in fertilization.

Received: 10 June 2023 / Accepted: 28 January 2024 / Published: 5 March 2024

This study aims to clarify the personal civil liability of the contractor and engineer for the damage and demolition in buildings and facilities and the defects that may appear during the warranty period. The general rules in civil liability were not sufficient in construction and building. During a warrant on the building, the negative result may appear as complete or partial demolition or defects that threaten its safety and durability. This changes the purpose for which it was established, whether in the national economy or compromising public security and public tranquillity. This also varies from a threat to individuals and their money. This pushed the legislators, including the Saudi regulator, to decide on a set of exceptional guarantees characterized by strictness consistent with the tragedies resulting from the collapse of buildings in whole or in part, from multiple aspects and effects. The most important of these guarantees is the decimal responsibility or the decimal guarantee that the Saudi regulator has imposed in Article (8) of the Saudi Building Code application system and clarified by Article (29) of the Executive Regulations for the Saudi Building Code Application System. We have adopted in the research: the descriptive, analytical, and comparative approach of the relevant texts in the system of application of the Saudi building code on which the study is focused, which is the case of the responsibility of the contractor and the engineer, for any demolition or defect in the construction after the issuance of the occupancy certificate, compared to some Arab legislation, which is the Egyptian Jordanian and Bahraini. This study discusses the nature of the decimal guarantee and its duration. Then, we focus on the provisions of the decimal guarantee. The study recommended that the Saudi regulator stipulates the warranty claim against the contractor and engineer. The lawsuit occurs after three years have passed since the demolition occurred or the defect was discovered, contrary to what was mentioned in the Saudi Civil Transactions System, which requires ten years to pass, because the ten-year liability is a private liability. The solidarity between the contractor and the engineer should not be limited to joint liability but should extend to include solidarity in the guarantee.

Received: 16 December 2023 / Accepted: 19 February 2024 / Published: 5 March 2024

Introduction: This study explores how gender and body composition moderate the effects of an exercise and nutrition intervention module on body composition and fitness profiles in obese college students in China, addressing a growing health concern. Problem Statements: Obesity is on the rise among Chinese college students, necessitating effective intervention strategies. However, the impact of such interventions may vary based on gender and body composition, a knowledge gaps this study aims to fill. Methodology/Study Design: Quantitative research involved 337 college students from the Modern College of Humanities and Sciences, Shanxi Normal University, Linfen, China. Scales were used to assess fitness profiles, body image, exercise, nutrition intervention, and demographics. Data analysis utilised Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM). Results/Findings: The exercise and diet intervention significantly improved body image and fitness profiles among obese college students. Notably, gender and body composition played crucial roles in moderating the intervention's effects on body image. Female participants experienced more substantial improvements in body image compared to males, with body composition also influencing the exercise-body image relationship. Implication/Significance: These findings have theoretical and practical implications. They enhance our understanding of exercise and diet interventions in reshaping body image and fitness profiles among obese college students. Importantly, they highlight the need for personalised interventions, considering gender and body composition. Policymakers and healthcare providers can use these insights to develop more effective programmes, to address the obesity issue among college students in China.

Received: 4 October 2023 / Accepted: 19 January 2024 / Published: 5 March 2024

This research aims to describe and study the “Arctic Robinsonade” plot embedded in the texts of the 21st century, considering the literary features of these texts. The authors revealed the properties due to which the “Arctic Robinsonade” plot is preserved in the literature of the first decades of the 21st century. Structural-semantic analysis enabled us to identify the elements that are introduced or removed from the plot of this story and update the potential content of texts created on the basis of one plot. This article assesses new opportunities for a promising direction in the subject area of the history of literature – studying fiction in the context of modern issues of preserving “cultural memory”. This article lays the conceptual foundations for further study of integrating a well-known historical episode into modern mass culture. This research demonstrates a significant practical contribution to the development of subjectology in the world literature. This article presents a number of useful literary commentaries aimed at expanding the interpretive background of the text, originally published in Europe in the 18th century – the book by P.-L. Le Roy about the adventures of Russian sailors on Svalbard (Spitzbergen). The scientific result of this research is the creation of a model of the “Arctic Robinsonade” in the texts of authors of the 21st century.

Received: 3 October 2023 / Accepted: 16 February 2024 / Published: 5 March 2024

Rapid urbanization and population growth in developing countries are driving people to settle in high-risk areas. Indeed, because of the very high cost of land in city centers, people prefer to settle in non-Aeficandi areas sometimes. Consequently, this choice results in inadequate sanitation due to the lack of access to basic services, and in turn to poor waste management. The residents of Yaoundé, particularly those living in precarious neighborhoods near urban watercourses, face the challenges of unregulated management of both liquid and solid waste. This situation contributes to the degradation of the urban landscape. The aim of this study is to assess people’s sanitation practices concerning both solid and liquid waste management, examining their impacts on the living environment and susceptibility to environmental diseases. The research methodology encompasses direct field observations, comprehensive documentary research, and surveys of 250 households within the study area. The findings show that people mainly deposited their solid waste in the watercourses that run through their locality and wastewater in the yard or on street. Most latrines are built in proximity to watercourses with holes for the overflow of faeces. As consequences of these practices, the results showed hydrosystem pollution, environmental degradation marked by flooding, and high vulnerability to diseases such as malaria, diarrhea, typhoid fever, respiratory infections and cholera.

Received: 27 September 2023 / Accepted: 18 January 2024 / Published: 5 March 2024

Reactivating the economy during a health crisis involves initiatives to enhance market activities both domestically and internationally. Various governments around the world have strategically decided to act, taking into consideration employment benefits. This research aimed to determine economic satisfaction in the Latin American population as a result of the release of Severance for Time of Service (Compensación por Tiempo de Servicio - CTS), an indicator of intangible labor performance. This study employed a descriptive-analytical methodology with a quantitative, nonexperimental transactional design, focusing on various countries in Latin America with emphasis on Costa Rica, Colombia, Chile, Peru, and Ecuador. The study applied a survey through a virtual form and concluded that 13% lacked or were unaware of the benefit of their time of work, 54% agreed with the measures of their government, and 14% showed disinterest in the calculation of the CTS. It was concluded that strategic economic reactivation, in tandem with employment benefits during a crisis, had a positive effect on the economy of active workers during the pandemic.

Received: 3 November 2023 / Accepted: 29 January 2024 / Published: 5 March 2024

Investment fund managers are limited by the fact that Latin American financial markets offer very few investment possibilities, which forces them to carry out operations at a global level. The objective is to optimize the portfolio management models with indexed stocks in the Lima Stock Exchange (27 stocks considering 2082 days from January 02, 2014 to April 13, 2022) applying the Markowitz models that determine the portfolios of the frontier of investment possibilities. The Sharpe model (CAPM), which calculates the expected return considering systemic risks, and the Sharpe index, which measures the stock return with total risk. Finally, the Black-Litterman (BL) model adjusts the ex-post expected return with expert opinion. By comparing the BL/CAPM ratio, an index is obtained that improves the predictability of expected returns and it is observed that the efficiency of this indicator is greater than the Sharpe index of subsequent expected returns (Sharpe BL). Therefore, the hypothesis that optimizing the portfolio management models improves the predictability of the expected returns of the indexed shares of the Lima Stock Exchange is accepted.

Received: 23 July 2023 / Accepted: 10 January 2024 / Published: 5 March 2024

The year 2020 transformed the world of work. The authors considered it essential to determine how this form of work operates. The main purpose of this study was to understand the impact of e-work on employees as well as on their preferences and experiences. We aimed to identify the preferences and experiences of e-workers from a number of European Union countries working in a multicultural Greek company. We used an online survey, and 182 employees participated in the study. This paper answers three research questions: Is there a positive or negative relationship in the perception of the e-working model among e-employees (in terms of age, gender, level of education and parental status)? What do e-employees lose or gain when working remotely (in terms of age, gender, level of education and parental status)? And is e-working a blessing or a burden? The results showed there is no one-size-fits-all model, as it is driven by organisational culture and employees’ demands. The data show both positive and negative experiences. Perceived age, gender, education and parental status mediated the relationship between e-work and various variables and sub-variables. The major implication of the findings is that increasing e-work in the workplace may be an efficient way to work, because we collected and analysed data quantitatively to inform experience of the real experiences of e-workers.

Received: 25 November 2023 / Accepted: 14 February 2024 / Published: 5 March 2024
