The Need to Resuscitate the Cultural Rite of Virginity Testing as a Tool to Strengthen the Campaign Against HIV/AIDS and Moral Decadence in South African Region

Abstract

The aim of this article is to discus through discourses on the benefits or the panacea of virginity testing as a tool of HIV/AIDS campaign and moral decadence. It has used a review of literature methodology. Findings indicate that virginity can be a home-grown solution to social vices in South African countries; can be an integral component of behavioural change; and can form an important component of the HIV/AIDS campaign. The article advices all the Africans not to take the western world concept of the human rights wholesomely, but must carry out their cost benefit analysis to decide for themselves what works for them. The need to respect cultural rights as an integral component of the continuum of human rights has been emphasized.
